#2 SHARE ACCURATE INFORMATION
SUMMARY OF CONNECTICUT LAWS AND INSURANCE RIGHTS PERTAINING TO ABORTION IN CONNECTICUT:
-
Contraception and abortion remain legal in Connecticut for now.
-
If you qualify for Medicaid, Connecticut defines your health care coverage as including contraception, abortion, prenatal care, childbirth, and post-partum care.
-
If you have private health insurance that is regulated by Connecticut, your coverage has not changed. If in doubt, contact your health insurance provider.
-
If you need financial assistance to have an abortion, grants are available at Planned Parenthood of Southern New England funded by The Reach Fund of Connecticut. Speak with the Planned Parenthood staff who will assist you.
Under the Dobbs decision, a Republican President and Republican Congress could institute a national ban on abortion at any time, overriding CT’s laws. Similarly, the current Congress and the President could immediately legalize abortion in all states–if we had the votes. Democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia voted with every Republican Senator to kill a bill that would have put the same rights we had under Roe v. Wade into national law.
The Dobbs decision did not eliminate the constitutional right to contraception, gay marriage, or sexual privacy. However, Justice Clarence Thomas explicitly called for eliminating all of those rights in his concurrence.
#3 SUPPORT ABORTION FUNDS
ABORTION FUNDS PROVIDE GRANTS DIRECTLY TO ABORTION PROVIDERS FOR THOSE IN NEED
Those seeking an abortion should speak directly with their abortion provider who will help them obtain a grant funded by their local abortion fund. It is not necessary to reach out directly to the abortion fund to receive these grants. The abortion providers will do this for their patient. However, abortion funds will provide information about abortion providers they work with if contacted by a person in need.
Abortion funds DO need financial donations to continue to offer grants consistently. Please consider donating to The Reach Fund of Connecticut if you can. The Reach Fund of Connecticut also appreciates volunteer support. Read more on their website. The link is below.
