HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
I hope you are all enjoying this winter season as we're given the opportunity to slow down, reduce our workloads and spend more time with family. We've all worked incredibly hard this year, so we've decided December should be a time of rest.
In that spirit, we've canceled the December 14th meeting. We are excited about the New Year and all the new plans we have in the works so it seems right to start fresh with a New Year’s Kick-off. The time and date will be announced soon but for now, here is a snapshot of our vision for 2023:
Firstly, we know some of you are passionate about Reproductive Rights but do not share that passion for political campaigning. We understand. It's not everyone's cup of tea! With campaign season over, I'd like to personally invite you to become involved in NARJ in ways that may be more interesting to you. We are currently shifting our mission to fundraising, education, advocacy, and special events. Of course, we will always help our Reproductive Justice candidates but it’s certainly not all we do! We welcome you to join us, share your ideas, bring your talents and glowing personality, and socialize with our fabulous collective members!
Secondly, we have begun working on events we hope to launch in 2023. The first is the "Pop Up Sports Bra" which will provide a fantastic viewing location to watch Collegiate Women's Sports while raising funds for The Reach Fund, a Connecticut nonprofit that provides financial assistance for abortion care. The second event, “An Evening of Storytelling”, is an education and advocacy gathering in its beginning stage of inception. Its aim is to shine a light on the diverse lived experiences of those who have sought reproductive healthcare. We are also hoping to plan activities in Norwalk for International Women's Day (March 8th). We hope you will join us in January and February as we work to make these plans a reality!
Lastly, if you have personal insights and opinions, or professional expertise in Reproductive Healthcare, we welcome you to share an editorial or opinion piece with our members. Please send your submissions to melissa@narj.com
We plan to expand our newsletter via guest editors, podcasts, and interviews with health experts, religious leaders, and activists in and around Norwalk. We look forward to your submissions and growing our audience next year!

WHY NOT WATCH SOME REPRO JUSTICE MOVIES THIS HOLIDAY?
The Jane tells the story of a group of unlikely outlaws. Defying the state legislature that outlawed abortion, the Catholic Church that condemned it, and the Chicago Mob that was profiting from it, the members of Jane risked their personal and professional lives to help women in need. In the pre-Roe v. Wade era –– a time when abortion was a crime in most states and even circulating information about abortion was a felony in Illinois –– the Janes provided low-cost and free abortions to an estimated 11,000 women. Stream on Amazon Prime, Hulu, HBO Max, and YouTube
Lingui, the Sacred Bonds (2021)
A single mother and daughter (Achouackh Abakar Souleymane and Rihane Khalil Alio) already struggling to get by on the outskirts of N’Djamena in Chad fear their world may collapse around them when the latter discovers she’s expecting a baby in Mahamat Saleh Haroun’s sweeping social epic. It’s an incisive examination of reproductive rights in a nation where abortions are condemned by both religion and law, but there are also joys to be found in its spectacular cinematography, evocative score, and depiction of enduring, limitless parental love.
