CLOSER TO NORMAL, THE FEDERAL BUILDINGS ARE OPENING APRIL 15TH.

In fantastic news for tourism and travelers, the federal government has announced several sites around Washington D.C. are reopening April 15th. Washington D.C. enjoys a regular tourists crowd from spring breakers, educational groups, international visitors and those within relative proximity to the city. Tourism is most certainly important to the many hotels and restaurants that dot the downtown area. Also important, is the opening of tours to the Capital, The White House and other sensitive federal buildings which signals a return to normalcy after several years of upheaval. One can't help but wonder, given that there's been no benchmark reached for the end of the pandemic, if this is the government's sign that they're moving forward as we've reached the best we can hope far - a new normal that lives with the reality of Covid rather than defeating it. Regardless, apparently The White House believes enough ground has been gained against Covid that it will not require masks or vaccination cards to enter. I'll take that as all good news. Here's the reality: President Biden is no spring chicken - and he's about to allow complete strangers into his home on Fridays and Saturdays for tours, possibly unvaccinated. That's confidence. We're moving on. Bring on the travels! On another note, Washington D.C. is absolutely gorgeous in April. You won't get an appointment for The White House or Capital tours this soon (I've checked, there was a long waiting list. They booked as soon as they were announced. Three months advance notice is best). Nonetheless, there is so much to do and see in April and May in Washington D.C. and the weather is brilliant. If you wait until the summer just picture yourself standing around in long, hot, sticky lines filled with elementary school kids on break. Don't do it to yourself - go in April!
