Easter in Washington, DC

While my last post was about going to events locally, I have to say a trip to Washington D.C. should never be passed over! Washington D.C. is one of the most affordable destinations - anywhere. The museums are free. It’s very walkable, and there are many reasonable hotel options. During this trip, we walked more than 20,000 steps (Just on Saturday!) to several monuments my husband has not gotten to see since becoming a citizen in 2018. We had planned to go before but, the pandemic threw a wrench in our plans.

April and October are the best months to visit D.C., in my opinion. In the summer, it is hot and sticky and filled with school groups. In the spring and fall, the weather is a mild seventy degrees and cannot be more perfect. For a Connecticut person, it is an entry into the spring season that has not quite made it’s way North. Needless to say, my husband desperately wanted to see The Library of Congress. The first date available (after federal buildings opened up again) was April 16, 2022 – Easter weekend. We don’t normally travel on Easter but our family is international and we have no children - so, why not?

While we were there we decided to attend Easter services at Washington National Cathedral. I am so glad we did. The service was glorious. There is nothing like Bishop’s Gate Gardens surrounding the Cathedral. And the church bells? Well, hear for yourself. I’ve never been super religious but, I am spiritual. And this beautiful place made me feel closer to God, Earth or whatever being exists that makes us feel whole. Whatever your religious creed or background, I highly suggest a visit to this beautiful place sometime. You will feel welcomed, refreshed and closer to all the beauty our nation has to offer, including it’s beautifully spiritual citizens.
