TRANSCRIPT

Hi everyone, this is Melissa Murray thanks for joining Marie's News. Today we're going to look at Eat to Beat depression and anxiety by Dr. Ramsey. We're also going to look at Sanjay Gupta and D, keep it sharp and this is talking about build a better brain at any age. So really interesting. Both of these focus on cognitive brain health and what we can eat to do differently. So we'll go through those kind of together as a comparison. And then we've got this huge monster I didn't expect it to be this big butt cleanse to heal. And I thought it was gonna be like a small little manual. It certainly looks like that when I read it on the bill. I had no idea. It's really big and beautiful. And it's kind of a separate thing. So we'll look at it but the theme was this is can we really eat to heal our, our ailments and to some extent we can. I'm going to focus on these two because they're written by doctors.

The cleanse to heal was written by the Medical Medium. So that was this one. And it does have a foreword by a doctor. But whenever it's someone who calls themselves a media, I think we have to be careful, we have to check what we're reading. And so these two are a little bit more traditional. So let's talk about the good and bad of both of them. This one, Dr. Sanjay Gupta is very narrative and it's it's a you know, beach read size. So you can you can take it you can read it at the beach kind of thing. It's not this huge monster. There is a 12 week program. Some of the criticisms that I read online. He named jobs he talks about his serving and helping Oprah lose weight. And that kind of annoys some people. It didn't annoy me. He actually talks about at one point that he wanted to be a journalist and in his writing, I thought was very good. It was it was very conversational. It wasn't overly doctory and I really enjoyed it. So I think it when he's being narrative, and he's trying to make a point, he's telling us people that we can relate to so we can see the problem and see what he's trying to solve. So I didn't find him name dropping, I found very approachable and I didn't find anything earth shattering the second criticism of both Sunday group this book and need depression, for anxiety. Is that the there's not really new diet advice that we haven't heard before. So a lot of similar things to like the Mediterranean diet are in here.

And that said, just learning how someone applies that information can be important can give you ideas, and just reading about health and why it matters. Can you know if we're having a foggy day, we might say, you know, up an ingredient here or there. I did find it worth reading some people did not. So I would take that for what it is. It's definitely good advice. And it's written by a doctor who's very well respected contributor to CNN. interesting stories, so he used to be to beat depression. Anxiety. Now, this claims that six weeks we can really change. And so that's, you know, whenever somebody claims something so large like that, I think we have to be careful at the same time. There's a lot I like about this. This isn't all a read. There's some really cool graphics in here. Let's see, you see that. This one's about fibers probably going to come up backwards on the screen. But I really liked how accessible and readable this was. I didn't expect that at certain points. of it. It reads like you know, it starts out almost like Sanjay Gupta has been, you know, real narrative but then there's also parts of it that are a recipe and kind of see, now I prefer my recipes to have pictures. And so that I can kind of see what's gonna come out but when you've also got all of these resources stuck in there and written by a doctor. It's kind of nice to see in this format, too. So I did think it was good. Read it has shopping tips. Let's see if there was one page I really wanted to show here. Let's see if I can find that again. What at what I remember is 181. Yes, I really like the illustrations, the leafy greens, it just makes a friendly and approachable. I again, nothing earth shattering I mean, kind of Mediterranean diet type stuff, but certainly worth a look and whenever we read stuff, we kind of become more focused on it. So I think we, it kind of for me helps make it through and it helps give me meal ideas for my family. It does go through as you can see here some of the ingredients that might prop up the way you feel I already eat a lot of avocados but I might you know from the story saying hey, I'm really feeling foggy I might put a little bit of that for my day. You know, you are of course stuff is where it's supposed to say you're supposed to stick to it for six weeks. I mean, who does that? I mean, you try but he does that. But I did find that it gave me an idea. Sanjay Gupta. I mean, it's gonna tell you what we are, you know, exercise, give blood throwing flowing through your brain. There's some supplement advice and some stories. I think it works. None of us are probably is it urine MCs so probably works better for him. But still worth and read. Good, readable, good information. This is not I'm not going to sit down and read all this. I tried. I can't. However, the way it's written, it is very much written like a recipe book and it's really beautiful. So let's look inside here. We've got some great great, great recipe like things. Some of it went on and on some of that I thought was repeat of itself. Going over why a cleanse was important. And the other thing that was shocking is it's not on cleanse so there are roughly sprouts as part of your plan. There. Are California rolls as part of your cleanse. So he does take away the stigma of what a cleanse is and why it's important. And again, it didn't find it. It didn't find the foods or the recipes. It's so different than the good advice we already have. I mean if there's not a label on it, if it's a Brussel sprout, if it's an orange, you're kind of safe, it gives you maybe what different ones to go in order with each other. So you might want to start with lemon juice or celery juice. The Medical Medium is really big on celery juice. I would say be careful with some of these. If you drink celery juice all the time, you're not going to feel good. And so I would check some of these things out. And but I think it works for some people. I do have a friend whose mom had colon cancer and and a lot of doctors do believe in alternative medicine to supplement medicine as well your traditional medicine and so this gives you ideas and it does talk about that and there is Doctor facing forward on that. And it did work for my friends so people do believe in it. I can't see anything in here that would be dangerous. And there was no advice telling you not to eat or anything like that. I did find the supplements at the end he has a list of supplements and I just kind of person I would check with my doctor before you take any supplements. And I I don't know. You just giving me a list of supplements if I kind of believe that but as far as getting recipes to make myself a smoothie to get ideas to just incorporate some cleaner because I really the cleanse was clean food and all of his foods clean and it was beautiful. So my review probably what I liked best was this one. I just found it really accessible. I even just the way the graphics were written, it was just friendly. It's accessible. It's easy to flick through, and I can find something. This really is a little bit of a book about Sanjay, that's true. That was one of the criticisms. It is very much about his life wife became doctor what he believes in. I did like to focus on brain health but I felt I thought you could even though this is asking for depression and this is asking for you know better brain at any age. There really kind of seemed concepts. So I felt you could get a lot of that in year two, and cleanse to heal if I think it's beautiful to have in your kitchen and to get ideas and to flip through as a recipe book. Again, I would say supplements that means everything else is pretty good. So that is my review. I hope you enjoyed it. Come back. Next week we're going to be talking about atomic habits and then the week after that we're going to be looking at Hillary Clinton's book Rotom and we're gonna be looking at my opinions, but to be nice. I think it's gonna be an interesting to compare events that they both went through in their lives and see how as women they dealt with them differently. So I'm really excited about the next phase of my series. You can leave comments and I hope to see you soon thanks
